From the APA Social Media Guidelines -- to cite a tweet on your Works Cited page:
  • Last name, First Initial. [Username].
  • (Date).
  • Text from tweet.
  • [Tweet].
  • Retrieved from twitter.com/username/status/webaddressoftweet

How to Cite a Tweet Using MLA

Can you use cite Twitter as a source? Yes! MLA guidelines say to cite the Tweet as follows:
  • Author’s real name (user name) 
  • The full tweet in quotation marks.
  • Date and time of the Tweet.
  • Medium of publication. 

Example:

Smith, Bonnie (CrzyCatLady). “Walmart is having a two for one sale on catnip.” 5 February 2012, 11:21 a.m. Tweet.
